![]() I was impressed by the outstanding high-resolution satellite photography and like how simple it was to zoom in on particular areas of the program. I enjoyed being able to travel the world from the convenience of my computer the most. Making use of Google Earth Pro was a lot of fun. In conclusion, Google Earth Pro is a thorough and potent mapping and analysis tool that I wholeheartedly endorse. Google Earth Pro is a flexible tool for a variety of applications thanks to the ability to import and export data as well as generate unique maps and visualizations. I enjoy how accurate and in-depth the maps and photos are, and how they are updated frequently. ![]() The program's ease of use and wide range of capabilities make it a superb tool for displaying and analyzing spatial data. Overall, my experience with Google Earth Pro has been good. The only problem I found with this system is that some images were outdated, therefore it can affect the quality and precision of the data in certain locations, however in the case of my work I had no problem. Lastly, their option to perform virtual flights and time travel through historical 3D images is amazing, as having data over time for a particular terrain helps a lot. Of the positive points to highlight of this system are its wide range of functions and updated geospatial data, since they provided me with a valuable resource for exhaustive analysis of the soils of a particular terrain, on the other hand for their high-resolution images they provided me with a detailed view of any location and the type of soil you were testing. Overall, Google Earth Pro has improved my efficiency and accuracy in the work assigned to me by giving me a more complete and detailed view of the architectural projects, soil surveys, and construction projects I have been involved with. Saving more placemarks, polygons, and paths to my places, directly affect the performance of the software.Īs a future architect interning at a construction company, my experience using Google Earth Pro has been incredible as this tool expanded my ability to perform geospatial research and analysis, giving me a detailed view of construction sites and their surrounding environments but most importantly, It helped me with my soil research. For example, QGIS provides a plugin called ‘Send2GE’, which is linked with Google Earth Pro. Further, this software is integrated with other spatial mapping software like ArcGIS & QGIS. This supports to import of various types of data formats including ESRI shapefile, Geo TIFF, kml, and images that are commonly used by spatial analysts. For landform mapping also I’m using this software to identify some physical features like escarpments, ridges, isolated hillocks, and slope types using the terrain option. In that case, I’m using Google Earth Pro to identify land use categories and their changes using historical imageries. As a planner, I’m doing land use and landform mapping to identify hazard-prone locations. With time, I have used Google Earth Pro for various purposes. My very first experience was identifying the locations using the search option. Currently, some countries are having 3D building facilities too. Further, this software is having a facility to generate elevation profiles by adding two points to a path. For example, it provides a street view imagery of most parts of the world and users can have a real feeling about the place. ![]() Google Earth Pro consists of several key features that are really helpful for spatial analysts and planners to understand a particular location. I’m using Google Earth Pro for more than two years. We can have virtual visits to places where we have never been before. ![]() This software is a really good platform to understand the places.

Yes, the version-hint.txt file is used by the hadoop type catalog to attempt to provide an authoritative location where the table's current top-level metadata file is located. Looking at comments on this thread, Is version-hint.text file optional? So I still stand by the JDBC catalog as the easiest to get started with as most people can get an RDBMS from their cloud provider or spin one up pretty easily - especially now that you will be able to efficiently move your tables to a new catalog with the code in the current master branch or in the next major Iceberg release, it's not something to worry about too much. There's also an option to provide a locking mechanism to the hadoop catalog, such as zookeeper or etcd, but that's a somewhat advanced feature and would require that you write your own custom lock implementation. If you're just working out a POC, you could start with the Hadoop catalog and then move to something like the JDBC catalog once you're more familiar, but it's important to be aware of the potential pitfalls of the hadoop type catalog which does not have the atomic compare-and-swap locking operation for the metadata file that represents the current table state. ![]() So you're not locked into one catalog if you start with something simple like the JDBC catalog and then move onto something else. In the next version of Iceberg - the next major version after 0.14, which will likely be 1.0.0, there is a procedure to register tables into a catalog, which makes it easy to move a table from one catalog to another in a very efficient metadata only operation, such as CALL _table('$new_table_name', '$metadata_file_location') There's also the DynamoDB catalog, and if you're using Dremio then nessie can be used as your catalog as well ![]() If you have an RDS instance or some sort of JDBC database, I would suggest that you consider using that temporarily. And then it becomes possible for two concurrent actions to write out a metadata file, and then one sets it and the other's work gets erased or undefined behavior occurs as ACID compliance is lost. The lock isn't something that really works out of the box with HDFS / hadoop type catalog. This compare and swap operation allows for the query that's updating the table to grab a lock for the table after doing its work (optimistic locking), write out the new metadata file, update the state in the catalog to point to the new metadata file, and then release that lock. The major reason for that, as mentioned in your threads, is that the catalog provides an atomic locking compare-and-swap operation for the current top level metadata.json file. I would definitely try to use a catalog other than the HadoopCatalog / hdfs type for production workloads.Īs somebody who works on Iceberg regularly (I work at Tabular), I can say that we do think of the hadoop catalog as being more for testing. The data once written will be read by databricks and dremio. This frequency might increase in the future. At this point the requirement is to be able to write new data from data bricks to the table at least every 10 mins. We iterate through on the possible metadata locations and stop only if
