There are several fenced in areas with petrified wood. Petrified wood is viewable just off the main park road near the campgrounds. See the Campbase "Photos" tab for a few examples. Photography is popular in the park with thousands of photo opportunities. There are loads of sights to see right from the highway. There are loads of great trails in the park area including Rainbow Vista Trail, Prospect Trail, and Balancing Rock Trail to name a few.įor a driving tour try White Dome Road. Hiking and climbing are by far the most popular activities in the park. A pay phone is available at the visitors center. There is no cellular service in most of the park. ![]() The park is located in a desert area near the Overton Arm of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The parks beauty comes from the red Aztec sandstone rocks throughout the park. Please see the bottom of this page for additional nearby campgrounds. If all group camp spots are taken the next closest group camping location is on BLM land outside the West and East park entrances. The group sites are located at the Beehives viewing area. Group camp spots are for tenting only, no RV's. All Camp spots have shaded picnic tables for those extremely hot summer days. Summer temperatures are usually over 100 degrees. The best time to visit the park is during the fall or spring. Firewood is available at the Visitors Center. Call the park directly to reserve group spots at tel: 70. Reservations are required for the group sites. Each group site can accommodate 45 people. Valley of Fire State Park Group Campground is open all year with three different sites.
